Catching Up: Summer Reflections & Fall Plans
Hi friends,
I hope this note finds you well and ready for the transition into a new season. As I look back on summer, I realize how much life has shifted and how much I’ve been leaning on the very coping skills I often talk about in session and on the blog.
One big change? I joined a rowing team! It’s been both challenging and energizing, and I even competed recently (I shared a video of the race over on Instagram if you’d like to cheer along). Because of this new adventure, my availability has changed a bit. The calendar you see when booking is always up to date, but if you ever need a session outside of those times, just let me know and I MAY be able to make it work.
If you haven’t been keeping up with my blog lately, you may have missed that I’ve been writing more about how I’m personally using hobbies and coping skills to get through a difficult season of my own. Here are a few posts you might find supportive if you’re also navigating tough times:
When Life Knocks You Down, Don’t Ghost Your People
Honoring Suicide Awareness Month: Reflections from the Middle of Grief
Grief Isn’t a Timeline: How to Handle Loss in a Culture That Pretends It’s Optional
Breaking Free from the Funk: How Behavioral Activation Can Help Depression
October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so I want to reshare an important piece:
“Is This Normal?”: What You Need to Know About Domestic Violence (Even If You’re Not Sure You’re Experiencing It)
As we move into fall, I’m shifting gears toward therapy techniques that can help with the symptoms and patterns that hold us back. Keep an eye out for these upcoming posts:
The Anxiety Trap: How Avoidance Keeps Us Stuck
Opposite Action: Flipping the Script on Your Emotions (DBT Style)
Embracing Fear: Why Spooky Season is the Perfect Time to Try ERP (this one’s for my fellow Halloween lovers!)
And just this morning, I released a new blog post on why I specialize in helping people manage oppression. A theme that runs through much of my work:
Why I Specialize in Helping People Manage Oppression: A Therapist's Perspective
Thank you, as always, for being part of this community. I look forward to sharing more with you this upcoming season, both on the blog and in session.
With warmth,
Nia
